THE STATELY HOME WHERE THE PAST AND PRESENT MEET

Huize Borghof, a stately home with a history stretching back to the start of the 19th century, stands as a silent witness to successive historical eras. No one has ever been able to establish the exact date the estate was built. In any case, the estate was commissioned during the Napoleonic era, by politician Louis Julien Julliot and his wife Françoise Caroline Rigo. The estate houses a stately home consisting of a rectangular main building, with a U-shaped farmstead just behind. These structures are surrounded by stunning parkland. Over the generations, a succession of prominent owners have each put their stamp on the estate. Elements including an elegant staircase tower and an impressive gatehouse bear witness to the various changes that have been made over the years. Today, in the shadow of the centuries-old walls of Huize Borghof, a special encounter between the past and the present is taking shape.

GREEN INNOVATION IN A HISTORICAL SETTING

The renowned architect Alfredo De Gregorio fully renovated the stately home in 2007. During the renovation and restoration of the Borghof stately home, the environmental impact of the works was carefully considered. The building rubble generated during demolition works was used as the source material for the estate’s refurbishment. Elsewhere, the addition of modern systems such as a heat pump, a ventilation system with preheated or precooled air and energy-efficient lighting underline the importance of sustainability during the project. The manner in which the renovation was carried out not only serves to emphasise the aesthetic beauty of the property, but its responsible approach towards nature too. After all, by respecting the surrounding nature, guests can use all that natural beauty to recharge their batteries today.
